Cenla Educators attending Kagan Workshops in July

The Kagan Cooperative Learning workshop will focus on cooperative learning in the classroom.

Over 450 educators from nine Central Louisiana public school districts are participating in Kagan Cooperative Learning workshops this month.

The workshops are funded by The Rapides Foundation and administered by its education entity, The Orchard Foundation. The Orchard Foundation is a nonprofit local education fund established as a resource for Central Louisiana that works with school districts, businesses, and communities to improve educational opportunities in the nine-parish area served by The Rapides Foundation.

The Kagan Cooperative Learning workshop will focus on cooperative learning in the classroom. Teachers will learn structures to implement in the classroom to improve student engagement, rigor and collaboration. Kagan structures also help teachers manage their classroom and promote a positive classroom climate.

These workshops are fully funded by The Rapides Foundation. The Orchard Foundation uses this grant money to conduct professional development institutes focusing on K-12. In recent years, hundreds of public school teachers have been able to attend these workshops free of charge. The Rapides Foundation’s efforts in education are correlated with the link between a person’s level of educational attainment with improved economic, social and health status.
